Donna Strickland, a Professor of Physics at the University of Waterloo is one of three co-recipients of the 2018 Nobel Prize for Physics. Donna is a 1981 Mac Engineering Physics B Eng graduate. She is the 1st female recipient of the Noble Prize for Physics in 55 years. Donna is being recognized for developments related to very short, very intense laser pulses ("Chirping" techniques). Dr. Kari Dalnoki-Veress' startup company MesoMat competed in the 2018 Lion's Lair Competetion and won First Prize! LiON's LAIR is an annual competition which brings together the entrepreneurship and innovation community in Hamilton. Finalists prepare and present their buisness pitch in front of business experts for a chance to win over $100,000 in cash and in-kind resources. Congratulations to Kari and his team! Congratulations to Carmen Lee who just received a prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship. The title of her research proposal is “Fluids on the nanoscale in thin film geometries”. Carmen works with Kari Dalnoki-Veress.
