Bird Photography

OK everyone, I am not a highly experienced bird photographer with loads of serious camera hardware (like my friend and colleague Doug Welch, who has photos that put these to shame). Most of the photos below were taken with an ordinary everyday 6 Mpx digital camera with some reasonable zoom capabilities, plus a tripod. Many are from our backyard.

An ordinary robin, but posing nicely

Indigo bunting (male)

Red-breasted grosbeak (male)

White-breasted nuthatch

Bunting and cardinal sharing the feeder

Four cardinals (two of each) in our mulberry tree after an ice storm

Female ruby-throated hummingbird

Goldfinch (they stay all year)

Hawk in winter. All the other birds make themselves very scarce when one of these is around!

American redstart, from the deck of our cottage on the Bruce Peninsula. Getting this active little creature to hold still was impossible, and this was the best-focussed shot of many tries.
