McMaster's Sidewalk Astronomy is a public outreach initiative that is run by the graduate students at McMaster's Department of Physics and Astronomy. We give the public of Hamilton, Ontario and the surrounding areas the unique opportunity to look through a powerful telescope at some of the brightest celestial objects in the sky. Everyone is welcomed to take a peek through the telescope.
About Us
Our Telescopes
12" Meade LX 200
The Meade LX 200 is a 12" (30.48cm) diameter Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. This telescope has a built in GPS and tracking capabilities which means that if we align the telescope correctly, it can find and track certain sky objects. With our typical eyepiece (32mm focal length, 72o field of view), we can achieve a 95x magnification of a celestial object.
10" Skywatcher Dobsonian
The Skywatcher Dobsonian is a 10" (25.4cm) diameter reflecting telescope. This telescope also has a built in GPS and tracking capabilities which means that if we align the telescope correctly, it can find and track certain sky objects. With our typical eyepiece (32mm focal length, 72o field of view), we can achieve a 38x magnification of a celestial object.
