Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Theoretical High Energy Physics
The Department of Physics & Astronomy at McMaster University and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI) invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position with expertise in theoretical high energy physics, to start July 1, 2019.
Candidates must have completed a PhD in a relevant discipline by the start date of the appointment, must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain a vibrant program of research excellence, and show the potential for outstanding teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be an outstanding scientist with a record of research excellence in theoretical high energy physics, very broadly defined; will excel in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level; and, is expected to make substantive contributions through service to both institutions, as well as to the broader community.
The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level at McMaster and as an Associate Faculty member at Perimeter Institute. Progressive policies are in place to assist faculty members who become parents or are needed to care for family. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
McMaster University is a globally renowned institution of higher learning and research, within which High Energy Theory is a small but growing part. Physics & Astronomy presently consists of 25 faculty and around 80 graduate students, with strengths in astrophysics, biophysics and condensed-matter physics. More information about the Department can be found at: www.physics.mcmaster.ca/.
Perimeter Institute is a rapidly growing independent centre for fundamental research in theoretical physics, with an exceptional research environment. It is currently staffed with 24 full-time and 21 associate faculty members, 53 distinguished Visiting Research Chairs, 58 Postdoctoral Researchers, 88 graduate students, including the Perimeter Scholar’s International program. In addition, Perimeter hosts hundreds of visitors and conference participants throughout the academic year. For more information please visit the website at: www.perimeterinstitute.ca.
Complete applications must be made online at www.workingatmcmaster.ca/careers (Faculty Positions, Job 23379) to the attention of: Dr. Graeme Luke, Chair, Department of Physics & Astronomy, McMaster University, 1280 Main Street West, Hamilton, Ontario, L8S 4K1.
A complete application consists of: a cover letter, a current Curriculum Vitae (including a list of publications), a statement of research interests, a statement of teaching interests and experience (including teaching outlines and valuations f available), a statement of their experience and plans for advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in post-secondary education, community-based or other professional settings, and three letters of reference which should be sent directly by your referees to mailto:luke@physics.mcmaster.ca.
