This talk is to give members of one of Canadaâ??s leading physics and astronomy departments some background on its own history. Except McGill and Toronto, Canadian physics departments had almost no research or graduation work until the late 1940â??s. McMaster then began such activity in science and over the next years we became a leading university in physics and astronomy. The members of the department also played major roles in overall McMaster development in other areas and in national and international activities. Many of these fields and the people involved for about 40 years will be discussed.
