Title: A Few Things About Strings
Speaker: Dr. Clifford V. Johnson
Institute: University of Durham
Department of Mathematical Sciences
Location: ABB 163
Description:
Theories of extended objects called Superstrings promise to yield new insights into the structure of our Universe at the most fundamental level.
Recent research has shown that not just string-like objects are important, but also other extended objects called “Branes” as well. This had led to
many new insights, including new techniques for studying black holes, and a new “holographic” view of how our entire universe might work. In this
talk we will review some of these concepts.
