Title: Preclinical in vivo micro-computed tomography
In vivo micro-computed tomography has been used for approximately 20 years for characterizing and monitoring disease in rodent models. Challenges for imaging rodents include physiological motion due to their fast metabolic rates and ensuring adequate contrast between organs, or between heathy and diseased tissues.
In this presentation, I will describe my work on preclinical micro-computed tomography, including respiratory-gated and cardiac-gated image acquisition. I will describe studies ongoing in my lab investigating a new contrast agent in a tumour model, and using respiratory-gated micro-CT imaging to monitor the side-effects of radiation therapy. Finally, I will describe some new directions for my research to improve image quality for preclinical studies using image processing techniques.
