Title: Digging Deep Into Feedback and Galaxy Formation
Abstract:
With recent advances in our observational capabilities (from ALMA to the JWST), we are beginning to unlock an even greater understanding of how galaxies form and evolve, from the first few million years of the Universe’s history to the present. A major piece of this understanding is our growing awareness that galaxies are self-regulating systems, with energy released by the formation of stars and the growth of black holes controlling those same processes in a mechanism called “feedback”. In this talk, I will show how comparable advances in simulation modelling of galaxy formation has helped us to see how this feedback can act upon galaxies, how we can use diverse observations to help constrain and understand this feedback, and what the future might bring for our theoretical understanding of how cosmology, stars, black holes, and galaxies all come together as one holistic picture.
