Title: Probing Spin and Valley Dynamics in Two-Dimensional Semiconductors
Speaker: Dr. Luyi Yang
Institute: University of Toronto
Location: ABB-102
Description:The recent advent of atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) materials such as graphene, layered transition metal chalcogenides and many strongly correlated materials, has provide a new opportunity of studying novel physics in low dimensional systems. In particular, interest in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide semiconductors such as MoS2 and WSe2 has exploded in the last few years, driven by the new physics of coupled spin/valley degrees of freedom and their potential for new spintronic and valleytronic devices. I will give an overview of these 2D semiconductors. Then I will present our recent work on the coupled spin-valley dynamics of resident carriers in doped monolayer 2D semiconductors using time-resolved Kerr rotation.
