Title: Recent Progress in Neutron Detection
Description: Neutron detection has been playing vital roles in nuclear science and engineering. In neutron imaging and scattering, with recent development of intense neutron sources, the neutron detection systems must cope with ultra high counting rates, which cannot be handled with the traditional radiation detection technologies. In special nuclear material detection, many research groups have developed new neutron detectors to address the 3He shortage problem that was caused by a rapid increase in the demand of 3He gas proportional counters, the most popular type of the traditional neutron detector. In this talk, I will review and present advances in neutron detection technology in neutron imaging and special nuclear material detection. Recent advance in neutron-gamma pulse shape discrimination will also be discussed.
