Title: Integrating Computation into our Physics Curriculum at Guelph
Abstract:
Over the past decade, there has been a growing effort in North America to integrate computational skills into undergraduate physics curricula. Incorporating computational physics not only broadens the range of problems students can tackle but also promotes exploratory learning and can foster a deeper understanding of physics. Over the past seven years, we have explored different approaches to integrate computation into our physics courses. I’ll share with you some of the challenges and successes we have encountered with our attempt to thread computation through a variety of physics courses from first- to fourth year. I would also like to share with you a study we conducted looking at how student engagement with our computational exercise can help deepen students’ understanding of physics.
