Nuclear astrophysics seeks to understand the energy generation and synthesis of the chemical elements in diverse environments, from the Big Bang to stars. Progress in our understanding depends on efforts in theoretical, observational, and experimental research fronts. Stellar explosions, in particular, such as classical novae and type I X-ray bursts, have been the targets of much recent activity in experiments, in part due to the availability of new exotic ion beams from accelerator facilities. I will discuss some of our group’s recent efforts at this frontier, with both radioactive and stable ion beams, and present some of our future plans.
